The past months have been interesting months in regard to housing within our community, mainly because of the extreme weather we have encountered. What makes it interesting is the fact that we have people running out of propane when at most times it is not necessary. I would like to stress as the Housing Manager that propane as a fuel that heats your home is an absolute necessity. Take the time to check your fuel levels as well as budget accordingly to make sure you have ample fuel to withstand any unforeseen weather conditions. Secondly, I would like to mention that Woodland Cree will be hosting the Fourth Home Maintenance Workshop at the end of this month (FEB 28 & MARCH 1) This is the Fourth attempt at trying to Educate the Home Occupants on how to maintain their home by being able to do small much needed repairs and maintenance on their own other than relying on the First Nation for small maintenance items that can be done by those Occupying the homes. I hope that attendance to this workshop is increased as the previous workshops have shown that there has been little interest in the occupants wanting to learn how to maintain their homes. Additionally, I would also like to mention that I have completed a two-year SAIT Certified course that has taught me many fundamental aspects of First Nation Housing and remedies on how to become more self-sufficient in regards to housing, now the next challenge is being able to implement what I was taught into the operations of the First Nations Housing Program for the benefit of All, now and in the future. Further-more I would like to inform everyone that the Housing Department is operating on the New Winter Hours Schedule implemented by Woodland Cree.
